The region's future problem solvers have shown off their skills at the Niwa Bay of Plenty Science & Technology Fair.
The fair was held at the Sir Howard Morrison Performing Arts Centre yesterday and Thursday, with entries from schools throughout the Bay of Plenty.
Event chairman Mark Franken said judges had wanted to see solid displays of science and technology research.
"What we are looking for when choosing the winner is good science projects and good technology projects. They start with a hypothesis and then they test it. Originality is good."
Tauranga Intermediate student Cole Anderson won the fair, beating high school-aged children, with his idea for a road speed sign which changed, dependent on the weather.
