It's looking like a fairly marginal end to the year weather-wise, with scattered showers and possibly even thunder expected in the final few days.
Metservice forecaster Ciaran Doolin said it was tough to pick which day would be the best to enjoy outdoor activities with rain, or at least showers, expected right through until the end of the year.
Today, patchy drizzle was expected to turn to showers late afternoon with some possibly thundery. The outlook for Tuesday isn't much better with scattered showers, and on New Year's Eve occasional rain may develop.
"It's a little bit of a mixed bag," Doolin said.
Rotorua Lakes Council events manager Martin Croft said the outdoor events planned as part of the GLO Festival would go ahead regardless of weather, unless it was bad enough to be considered a threat to safety.
