A Turangi man has admitted wounding two police officers, leaving them with deep lacerations to their hands.
Owen Charles Becroft, 50, pleaded guilty in the Rotorua District Court this morning to two charges of wounding with intent.
According to the police summary of facts, on September 24 Becroft's family reported to police that he was threatening to kill himself. He had left text messages on his mother's phone.
Police looked for Becroft throughout the night and he was eventually found in his car parked in the Turangi town centre car park about 9.50pm.
The summary stated Becroft had a gas bottle in the car and produced a lighter. Fearing for Becroft's immediate safety two police officers attempted to remove him from his car. Becroft then punched one constable in the face.
