A Facebook plea for a rural community to step up has received a rapid response, giving hope a volunteer committee will survive.
Janine Whitmore, a paramedic with St John Rotorua and a volunteer in Reporoa, posted a plea on Friday asking for new committee members on the Reporoa St John Ambulance committee. She said it was "in dire straits" and if the committee couldn't attract at least three new members it would be in danger of folding and losing control to St John in Taupo or Rotorua.
At the moment there were only five committee members and they couldn't always all be at meetings. That meant decisions on how to spend money was having to be made by only two or three people. "It's important to have a debate or a discussion about things like this," Ms Whitmore said.
"You don't need a medical background for money stuff. As a result of my rant on Facebook we've had a fantastic response. We've been blown away."
She said around 10 people had shown interest and there was variety among them, which meant a new committee would be diverse.
