New Zealand Post is continuing with its plans to close the Te Ngae PostShop - and while postal services will be shifted to another local business, the banking and bill payment services will be scrapped.
The shutdown comes despite a petition from the community worried about financial services at Te Ngae being removed and the gradual withdrawal of services from the area.
Today Z Energy in Te Ngae Rd will close after it was decided money required for an upgrade to keep it operating would not be spent.
Mokoia Community Association co-ordinator Leigh Richards-Ward said the expected closure of the PostShop had got the community into action with more than 1900 people signing a petition to keep financial services.
"It has been an issue that has combined all of our Eastside community."
