Pink Shirt Day was celebrated in style last Friday at Rotorua Lakes High School.
This worldwide annual event began in Nova Scotia, Canada, in 2007, when a group of students stood up to defend a pupil who was bullied because he was wearing a pink shirt. In a show of support, many of his fellow students wore pink shirts, and Pink Shirt Day was born.
The day aims to create a place where all people feel safe, valued and respected.
As part of their health curriculum, Rotorua Lakes High School's Level 2 Health class organised a school-wide event, where the students and teachers could wear pink to take part in Pink Shirt Day.
This was a non-profit event to raise awareness about preventing bullying within the school.
