A Rotorua man has been jailed for his part in the aggravated robbery of two overseas tourists at a hot pool near Waiotapu.
The Rotorua District Court heard Michael William Absolum didn't plan the robbery, nor inflict any of the violence, but he did help steal belongings from the couple's campervan.
Absolum, 33, was sentenced to two years and four months' prison after he and two co-offenders pleaded guilty to armed robbery. Jade Raymond Mellow, 21, had been sentenced to three-and-a-half years in prison while Blake John Lee, 19, will be sentenced on Friday.
Judge Phillip Cooper said they went to the hot pools on the night of July 3. The tourists, a Korean woman and Swiss man, were also there.
"The other two hatched a plan to rob them," Judge Cooper said. "It's agreed you assisted the others by helping them remove property from the campervan.
