It was a warm and wet September in Rotorua, with plenty of rain falling on the city.
Following the warmest August on record, warmth continued into September with an average temperature of 11.3C recorded for the month. The average temperature in Rotorua for September is usually 10.5C.
Rainfall in the area was also higher than normal, 179.9mm falling across the 30-day period. Normal rainfall for September is 130mm.
Rotorua weatherman Brian Holden said although the rainfall was relatively high for the month it did not mean a trend was starting. "It has been higher than what we would normally get for September but nothing is the same each month," he said.
"So it is not fair to say a trend is starting or anything like that."
