A day of chilling and supporting her kayak slalom teammate has Luuka Jones ready for her big Olympic moment.
The Waiariki Academy of Sport paddler will race in the finals tonight in London, shooting for a top 10 spot and a place in the medal runs at Lee Valley.
"I'm feeling really good and looking forward to racing [tonight] and finding a natural rhythm on the course and attacking it to make the final,"said the 23- year-old applied management student.
Jones was water side last night when Kiwi Mike Dawson finished his Olympic campaign at the finals stage.
Her Waiariki and Olympic teammate missed two gates, something that also hampered Jones's last qualifying round two days ago.
Jones was a fascinated, although slightly nervous, spectator at the men's final as she prepares for the finale of the women's K1 tonight.
"It definitely won't be easy out there but I'm fired up and want to leave London proud of my paddling and performance," she said.
"We've been getting fantastic support and messages from home and that's a cool thing to take onto the course with me."
Jones by her own standards was disappointed with her final qualifying run but has been rebuilding her confidence by working on the flat water, watching videos of past training sessions and the current course which competitors cannot paddle on between competition days.
Last night she paddled on the mini white water course where they can train and warm up on.
The finals start from 12.25am on Sky Sport and Jones, who qualified 15th, is expected to be the first competitor on the rapids.
