Javan McCauley-Walker has had the chance to rub shoulders with two of the country's netball stars.
Javan, 11, and 9-year-old Taimania Brooking from Te Araroa, were at the heart of the thrilling on-court action at Monday night's ANZ Championship game in Rotorua flying the flags of the Waikato Bay of Plenty Magic and Canterbury Tactix.
Javan and Taimania both won the opportunity in the ANZ Future Captains competition, to meet captains Laura Langman and Maree Bowden, before joining the two teams on court for the televised opening of the game.
Javan, a Kawerau Intermediate pupil who was nominated by her teacher Melissa Hunia to enter the competition, couldn't believe she had won.
"It was so cool, I've never been to a live game before so seeing the players in real life, and meeting the two captains, was unreal.
