Darren Hughes has formally tendered his resignation as an MP, effective from Tuesday when Parliament sits again.
A spokeswoman for Speaker Lockwood Smith confirmed the letter had been received.
Mr Hughes resigned after a sexual complaint was made against him to police. He strongly denies the claim.
