Two men facing forgery charges following a bid to influence the Super City election allegedly ignored a court order to not speak with each other.
Daljit Singh and an associate, who has name suppression, appeared in Manukau District Court yesterday after being arrested for allegedly breaching bail.
The pair were
granted bail on October 5 but one of the conditions was that they were forbidden from speaking to each other. The two men were again granted bail yesterday.
Singh was a candidate for the Papatoetoe Local Board in the recent Auckland Council election and was arrested just days before polling closed.
He is alleged to have forged change of address forms to falsely enrol voters in Papatoetoe to vote for him. Singh has denied any wrongdoing and did not receive enough votes to be elected.
Three other men have been charged in connection to the police inquiry, and further charges are expected to be laid.
In September the Herald revealed the alleged attempt to influence the election by revealing two Papatoetoe properties in which nearly 90 voters were enrolled.
