A man accused of raping a schoolgirl in public toilets in South Auckland has been freed on court bail.
Saan Pene Pomare, 35, of Manurewa, yesterday appeared in the Papakura District Court on three sex charges relating to the alleged daylight rape of a 15-year-old girl.
Pomare appeared before Justice of the
Peace Anthony Charman, charged with sexual violation by rape, assault with intent to rape and indecent assault.
Police opposed bail.
The Herald understands the Crown believes it does not have sufficient grounds to appeal against the bail ruling.
Bail was granted to Pomare on the conditions that he lives at his address, does not associate with the complainant, reports to police daily, obeys a night curfew, and does not go into public toilets.
Pomare's lawyer, Ron Mansfield, told the Herald after yesterday's court appearance that his client had denied the charges.
The charges were laid after police were told of an incident which happened at public toilets in Halver Rd, Manurewa, on June 30.
