The death of an Auckland woman is now being treated as a homicide.
The body of the woman, whose name has not yet been released, was found in a home in the Auckland suburb of Glen Innes late yesterday afternoon. Her body was believed to have lain there for up to two days before being discovered.
"We've commenced a post mortem and the indications are that it is not natural causes (which caused the woman's death)," inquiry head Detective Senior Sergeant Greg Turner told NZPA.
"We've commenced a detailed scene examination which we expect to take up to three days. We've commenced an area canvass of surrounding residences and businesses, and we're concentrating on family and friends of the victim to background her movements in recent times."
An inquiry team of 15 yesterday began inquiries into what was initially being treated as a suspicious death. Mr Turner would not comment on how the woman died, or any possible motives for the crime.
"It's very early days and we're still feeling our way," he said.
