The sentencing of double murderer Wen Cui was adjourned today to consider reparation for the victims' families. Cui, 21, was found guilty at the High Court in Auckland last month of murdering his estranged girlfriend Bin Lin, also known as Ruby, aged 21, and her friend Ge Li, 20, during an incident at a house in Unsworth Heights on Auckland's North Shore on April 13 last year.
Cui was also found guilty of the attempted murder of another of Ruby's friends, Jun Xin, aged 22.
This morning Cui's lawyer Barry Hart asked for the sentencing to be adjourned until August 18. He told Justice Judith Potter that there could be up to $25,000 available from Cui's family to help meet the costs of the families of the two murder victims and the personal financial costs of the sole survivor.
There was also a sum of around $2000 belonging to Cui that had to be taken into consideration.
Justice Potter said the reparation had to be taken into account under the sentencing act.
