Palmerston North's 30,000 students pump $1 billion a year into the city's economy, says a city council report.
The report said students - 40 per cent of the population - contributed about 15 per cent of the region's economic wealth.
Most students were not studying for degrees and were enrolled part-time, the report found. Almost half of them were 30 or older.
The report also outlined students' requirements and requests.
