A man sexually abused his former girlfriend in a five-hour ordeal at knifepoint, Napier District Court was yesterday.
Brendon Thomas, 22, unemployed, of Hastings was found guilty of rape, sexual violation, assault and threatening to kill.
Judge Mark Perkins remanded him in custody until June 13 for sentence.
Crown prosecutor Russell Collins said that obsessive jealousy about a former boyfriend, fuelled by alcohol, was behind the four or five-hour ordeal for the woman in which Thomas raped and sodomised her twice, held a sharpened knife to her throat and threatened to kill her in the Hastings flat they shared.
Thomas told the jury the woman's claims about how many times he hit her were not supported by her injuries.
He asked her to make love and if she had not wanted to, then that would have been it.
The cut to her throat was not intentional. If he had meant to cut her with the sharpened knife the cut would have been much bigger.
Holding the knife to her throat was foolish and stupid and he was "truly to blame for her injury" but it was accidental, he said.
