New Zealand's first Government-issued 10 shilling note has been sold in Sydney for double the pre-auction estimate.
The note, bearing the number Z000001 and dated August 1, 1934, was bought by a private Australian collector for $A40,000 ($48,700). It was part of a collection of 50 rare New Zealand notes put up for auction by Brisbane-based New Zealander Gary Lavin.
