The nine-year-old boy who died after being hit by a car in the Far North on Saturday was Te Paina Herewini Tahitahi of Houhora, police say. Te Paina was riding his bike with his cousins on Kimberley Rd, Houhora, when he was hit just before 1.30pm.
The police Serious Crash Unit was notified, and police have spoken with the driver involved. No charges have been laid in relation to the death at this stage.
Meanwhile police are yet to name the 67-year-old woman who died after a hit-and-run near Ohaeawai on Friday night.
Police are still seeking the driver of the car which hit the woman on State Highway 12, about 1km west of Ohaeawai near the repeater station, about 11pm on Friday.
Police said the vehicle will almost certainly have received damage as a result of the impact.
