Police are looking for a silver SUV that is suspected to be involved in a home invasion in Hanmer Springs last night.
Canterbury RuraI area commander Inspector Peter Cooper said police are continuing to investigate an incident where several shots were fired at the house on Hanmer Springs Rd about 9.30pm.
"While there were a number of people [adults and children] at the house at the time, fortunately nobody was injured by the shots fired," he said.
However, a man at the house, aged in his 50s, received a moderate head injury after being assaulted.
The man and his family are being supported by police and victim support.
Police are conducting a scene examination at the house today and cordons will remain in place throughout the day.
Cooper said police would like to hear from anyone who has seen a silver 2017 Nissan X-Trail, registration number KQU365.
"If you have seen the car, or have information which might help police locate the offender in this case, please call Christchurch Police on 03 363 7400.
"The occupant/s of the car should not be approached by members of the public," he said.
