The body of a woman has been recovered from Wellington's waterfront this morning.
Police were called to Queens Wharf about 6.30am where a body was discovered floating in the water.
Detective Senior Sergeant Kevan Verry said a middle-aged woman had died and the operation to recover her body had now finished.
The death was being treated as unexplained but at this stage there appear to be no suspicious circumstances.
Verry said inquiries were being made to find out how she came to be in the water.
Police were also working to identify and notify the woman's next of kin.
A member of the public made the discovery early this morning.
The body has been pulled from the water at Queens Wharf near Fergs Kayaks.
The area is cordoned off and police are directing morning commuters around TSB bank arena.
