Nine people are being treated for smoke inhalation after a house fire in Napier.

Emergency services were called a house on Rochester Street in Tamatea at about 8.30am today.

A Fire Service spokesman said while the fire was believed to be minor and contained fairly quickly, nine occupants had to be treated after inhaling smoke.

No one needed to be taken to hospital, a St John Ambulance spokesman said.
