Hamilton police are still hunting two clowns believed responsible for an attack on a woman as she walked home from the pub.
The 22-year-old suffered moderate injuries in the attack early on Saturday morning, as she walked along Memorial Dr.
She then fled to a friend's house nearby to raise the alarm and get help.
Police have been seeking a white van as part of their inquiries but today confirmed they don't believe the occupants of the van are connected to the clowns.
Members of the public are helping but no arrests have been made to date.
Police don't believe any weapons were used in the attack. There was no CCTV footage available of the attack.
The assault comes amid a social media frenzy of people posting sightings and videos of scary clowns across the country.
The sightings have been called the "scary clown epidemic" and originated in the US, where ghoulish clowns have tried luring children into forests.
A report of a clown scaring children at a Porirua school emerged last week.
Anyone with information about the Hamilton attack is urged to phone the police on (07) 858-6200.
