Two women have been arrested after the armed offenders squad blocked off part of Maitland St in Dunedin this afternoon.

A reporter on the scene said detectives entered the address about 4.30pm and two women were handcuffed and taken away in a squad car.

The cordons, which were also set up at the corner of Carroll and Melville streets and Maitland and Stafford streets, were lifted shortly after the women were taken away.

A police spokesperson said the armed officers are executing search warrants in relation to an offence that happened earlier in the week.

An ambulance is in attendance.
