A blunt instrument is believed to have been used to kill Hamilton man Brent Paul Brown in his Dinsdale home last week.

Waikato Police have launched a homicide investigation into the 45-year-old's death after a post mortem showed he had multiple injuries, but the cause of the death was inconclusive.

Brown was found dead at a house in Poaka Ave in Dinsdale last Wednesday night.

Detective Inspector Hywel Jones believed a blunt instrument was used to attack Brown.

Police are still looking for the weapon and are carrying out a forensic examination of the scene.

Police had spoken with the other people Brown lived with and were now appealing to anyone who many have seen Brown from Tuesday 12pm until about 11.45pm on Wednesday when his body was found.

Brown had a shaved head at the time of his death.
