A Kapiti Coast postie was hit by a car while on her bicycle during her morning run and had to be flown to hospital by helicopter after suffering fractures in her back.

The Palmerston North Rescue Helicopter was dispatched to Otaki about 9am.

The postie was stabilised by St John paramedics before being flown to Palmerston North in a moderate condition.
