A 63-year-old woman was knocked unconscious in her garden last night in Westport.

Community Constable Paul Sampson said it appeared the woman surprised an intruder when she went into her Wakefield St yard about 9.30pm.

She was punched in the face and knocked unconscious. She suffered substantial bruising.

Mr Sampson said that in recent weeks the woman had also had two ceramic ornaments and a wheelbarrow taken from her property.

The ornaments were a duck and a Buddha, both about 70cm high. Anyone with information can call Westport Police on 03 788 8310 or Crimestoppers at 0800 555 111.
