Another suspicious blaze has broken out in an abandoned apartment block in central Christchurch.

A fire service spokeswoman said six crews and a turntable unit fought the fire in the six-storey building in Hereford St early today.

She said the fire broke out at 3.15am and took two hours to extinguish.

It was being treated as suspicious.

Police and fire investigators were now at the scene.
