Police hunt Wellington jewel thief

Wellington police are hunting a jewel thief who made off with two rings valued at more than $11,000.

The incident happened on Friday at a store in the Wellington city business district.

Police described the thief as a man aged between 25 and 35 years old, of medium build and about 5'10 ft tall.

"He was wearing a dark beanie, a brown/ green hoodie and khaki pants," a statement said.

"The man also appeared to have a tattoo on his forearm and left hand which looks like flames or a tribal tattoo."

Anyone who has information about the theft is urged to contact police.
