A fire has broken out on a tenth floor of a central Wellington building.
Fire services were called out at 8.10am to Grant Thornton building on Lambton Quay.
Fire service assistant area commander Gareth Hughes said while the fire wasn't major, everyone in the retail and office building was evacuated.
"It's not a major fire but because it's a high rise building, it takes a lot of people to get up to the fire floor," he said.
Everyone in the building was evacuated and no one was injured.
Mr Hughes said it was an electrical fire but didn't know how it started.
The ceiling tiles were taken down to make sure fire hadn't spread, he said.
The fire was now extinguished and fire fighters were now in the mop up stage.
Twelve fire trucks attended the scene.
Everyone was allowed to re-enter the building but employees from the tenth floor were given the rest of the day off, Mr Hughes said.
