A Dutch tourist missing overnight on the Routeburn track overnight has been found safe and well.
Police said the 29-year-old woman was reported missing on the popular South Island track just before 10pm when she became separated from a friend.
The pair were on a day tramp on the alpine track.
A search was mounted overnight after her friend raised the alarm late last night and she was found at McKenzie hut at 5.45am by a search and rescue helicopter.
Police said the incident was a reminder for trampers to be prepared for a trip into the bush even if it was just for a day.
This included taking adequate equipment including a waterproof jacket, torch and food as well as leaving notice of where they were headed.
The also advised tramping parties to stay together and avoid getting separated if possible.
