Hamilton woman Helen Steffert is missing after going for an early morning walk.

Hamilton Police are appealing to the public to let them know of any sightings of the 69-year-old who was last seen at her Rototuna home, in north Hamilton last night.

Her husband believed she went for a walk this morning but never returned home.

Mrs Steffert is described as being very thin, average height and often wears glasses.

Waikato District Command Centre Robbie Hermann said her family was worried and the disappearance was out of character.

"We don't know why she hasn't returned." There was no reason for police to believe there was anything suspicious or sinister.

Anyone who has seen Helen should contact the Hamilton Police immediately on (07) 858 6200.
