A motorcyclist has been taken to Wellington hospital in a critical condition after being hit by a car on Customhouse Quay.

The accident happened around 5.20pm.

Police, fire and ambulance all attended and the Serious Crash Unit is now carrying out a scene examination.

The rider of the motorcycle was taken to Hospital in a critical condition after deteriorating at the scene, police said.

A police spokesman said police were not completely sure what had caused the crash but it seemed it "may have been a merging issue."

Sergeant Simon Paterson of Wellington Road Policing would like to hear from any witnesses to this crash, particularly in regards to the movements of a red sedan, described as possibly a 4-door sedan travelling north-bound in the middle-lane on The Quays.
