Two men who sparked a large-scale police response when they were found inside a North Shore home this week are still on the run.
The men were found inside a flat on Waipa St, Birkenhead, about 10am, when one of the occupants -- Jesse Groet -- woke to find them in his bedroom.
He chased them outside and called police, who began to hunt for the men, one of whom was wearing a ski mask to cover his face.
The pair got away in a stolen car, found abandoned on Seaview Rd, Glenfield, a short time later.
A large search involving the Eagle helicopter and dog units was unable to track the men.
A police spokeswoman said the offenders still had not been identified or located and inquiries are ongoing.
The offenders are described as being in their late teens to early 20s. One is of slim to average build and both are of Maori or Pacific Island descent.
