Two men have been arrested this morning and will appear in the Palmerston North District Court on a number of charges after a high-speed chase in the city.

At 7am, suspicious activity was reported at a local business in Church St and as the police were attending a vehicle left the location.

Officers signalled for the driver of the vehicle to pull over and stop but said he refused.

"A high-speed chase began and when the speed of the offending vehicle began increasing the police patrol abandoned their pursuit," a police spokesperson said.

"A short time later the offending driver lost control of his vehicle and crashed at the intersection of Botanical Rd and Featherston St, damaging the traffic lights and a fence. The two occupants of the offending vehicle were uninjured and were arrested."
