"Fortunately, this rain has eased and is not expected to become heavy again," Ms Flynn said.
"However, these areas can expect a few showers to linger about until Saturday morning."
For the rest of the country, tomorrow Firefighters in the South Island reported going out to five fireworks-related incidents overnight.
The Fire Service have asked people to be considerate towards other people and to animals this Guy Fawkes.
Children should not be lighting fireworks, and adults should always keep a bucket of water or a hose handy, The Fire Service said.
Its advice is to never mix booze and fireworks, only light fireworks outside and away from anything flammable.
Unlit or dud fireworks should be left alone and all fireworks should be finished and put away by 10.30pm.
Pets should be kept inside tonight, The Fire Service said.
