Wellington bus users can now swipe their Android smartphone to pay for fares.
Around 50,000 Wellington Snapper users can download an app created by Semble to pay for public transport services, top ups, or passes.
"This is something our customers have been asking for," said Snapper chief executive Miki Szikszai.
"We want to provide our public transport users with the easiest way to pay for their trip and we think the smartphone is that way."
Android phones that feature Near Field Communication (NFC) wireless technology, which allows the easy exchange of data, can use the service.
