Buller's Stockton Mine has shed another 21 Solid Energy jobs in just over a month.

On September 1, Stockton had about 584 mineworkers and 140 contractors' employees The Westport News reported yesterday.

However, Solid Energy stakeholder relations manager Vicki Blyth revealed today that Solid Energy's workforce had since fallen by another 21, to 563, since then.

Nationwide, Solid Energy now had 756 fewer employees than at June 30 last year, she said. The company currently employed 902 people, including the 563 at Stockton.

Contrary to last night's News' report, the nationwide figures did include the loss of Stockton jobs through natural attrition as well as 15 Stockton redundancies, Ms Blyth said.

The figures do not include around 249 Stockton contractors' jobs which have disappeared since June last year.
