Quake rattles central New Zealand

A moderate earthquake jolted people in the lower North Island and upper South Island early today.

The GNS website said about 400 people reported feeling the 4.7 magnitude shake.

The quake, which hit at 5.22am, was centred 30km east of Seddon and was 22km deep.
