Police name man who drowned while fishing in Raglan

Police have released the name of a man who drowned in Raglan on Monday.

He was 43-year-old George Welsh Greening of Hamilton.

Mr Greening died after falling from the Dolphin Pier at Raglan Wharf while fishing with a friend about 12.30am.

He was swept away by a strong current.

Sergeant Neil Faulkner of Raglan police said despite the best efforts of the friend in getting him to shore, Mr Greening was not able to be revived.

The death has been referred to the coroner.
