AOS callout in Levin

By Peter Franklin of the Horowhenua Chronicle

A 111 call to police resulted in a tense two-and-half hours for Levin residents today as armed police surrounded a house.

Wellington communications centre received a 111 call about 2.45pm telling them that someone was armed with a firearm at a Tiro Tiro Road property.

Sources said there was an argument at house between up to three people, when it is alleged one of the group involved produced a firearm.

Armed police from Levin, Shannon and highway patrol secured streets in a 500m radius around the house and Armed Offenders Squad members moved in about 3.30pm.

A man and a woman in their 20s were taken to Levin police station to assist police.

The police cordon was lifted at 4.10pm and no charges had so far been laid this evening.
