Some proof the electric blankets and heaters have been pulled out of storage in Auckland homes this past week.

Lines company Vector says there has been strong demand for power over the last seven days, and it is edging towards a record high.

Demand hit 1,718 megawatts around 7.00PM last Wednesday - the peak experienced in Auckland when snow fell in 2011 was 1,852 megawatts.

Stormy weather brought down power lines in some areas, and there were seven incidents of cars crashing into power poles.
