A giant gingerbread house is taking shape in the foyer of Te Papa this morning.
A team of ten bakers and chefs are working to erect the entirely edible creation, which will be the size of a garden shed.
Executive chef Bernd Lippmann says the gingerbread cottage will have awooden structure to help keep it up, but will be covered in plenty of tasty treats.
"We're going to have around 50kg of icing; we're probably going to have around 20kg of lollies on standby; along with the Smarties, we're going to have 10kg of Smarties."
The gingerbread house will be on display at Te Papa until early next year.
