SPCA appalled as dog left tied to shelter

Invercargill's SPCA is horrified at the case of a young dog, which was left tied outside one of its shelters overnight - just as a storm hit.

It was dumped at the Woodend shelter on Wednesday night and had nowhere to escape from the weather.

The dog has grazes on its legs from getting tangled in the chain it was tethered to.

Shelter manager Mary Bradley says the animal was terrified when they found her.

"But she's starting to show her true nature now and she's started to trust us. I just can't understand why people do that."

Ms Bradley says it was just cowardly to abandon the dog in such bad weather - and illegal.
