A motorist accused of punching an American cyclist has indicated he will plead guilty.
Jamie Curtis Pene, 39, of the Wellington suburb of Newtown, appeared before a registrar in Wellington District Court today charged with one count of assault.
He did not plea but intimated he would plead guilty at his next appearance, on February 1.
Pene allegedly punched Russ Roca on January 10 as the American tourist cycled along a Newtown, Wellington, street with partner Laura Crawford.
Roca, 33, was allegedly tackled off his bike and then punched after picking himself up.
