Christopher Grant Homan, 35, died when the 123 Mart building on Cashel Street collapsed during the earthquake.

The cancer survivor was an operations manager and lived with his wife Christine and their children in Wigram.

A close relative said the family did not want to say anything about their son, but they appreciated the support they had been getting from others.

Christopher's friends paid tribute to their mate on the Facebook social networking site.

Paul Clephane wrote: "RIP Chris Homan. The Big C has given you a tough time, now the Christchurch Earthquake has taken your life.

"Our thoughts go to Nan, Sam bro Patrick and sis Mel. Along with Chris' wife and kids... A sad sad loss."
