Unfortunately they met the strong Bay of Plenty team in the post section and although Don Cameron won his singles match, the pair and four were unable to emulate him and went out of the competition 2-1.
The women continued to improve and obtained third placing in their section but were well behind the winner and runner-up Dunedin and Waikato and therefore did not reach the last eight.
Eventual winners were Bay of Plenty (men) and Auckland (women).
This weekend sees the Northland Open Men and Women taking part in the Inter Centre Open event in Christchurch.
The teams have been named and are as follows.
Men: Singles - Dennis Brewster (Hikurangi); Pair - Gordon Bond and Dean McMurchy (Kensington); Four - Don Cameron (Hikurangi), Paul Wightman (Mangawhai), Sam Nelson and Dusty Reader (Whangarei).
Women: Singles - Diane Strawbridge; Pair - Maree Attwood, Karen Horscroft (Kensington); Four - Dawn Owens, Lauren Mills (Kensington), Sue Wightman (Mangawhai) and Leanne Stewart (Hikurangi).
Clubs and players are reminded that the Centre "Presidents Day" any combination fours will be held at the Whangarei greens on March 28.

Well done to Ann Muir and Sue Wightman who joined together to play the Birkenhead pairs last weekend and came away in the runner-up position. They had the chance to win the event on the last end but had to concede the win to Grimshaw and Hardy.
Centre Champion of Champion events entries are also due. Clubs, your entry form has been sent to you all. Please get this form returned promptly if you wish to be represented in these events.
April 14 will be triples (men and women; Kamo and Onerahi greens). April 15 is singles (men and women at Mangawhai).
Champion of Champion pairs and fours will be played the weekend of May 5-6.

Secondary Schools Tournament – your open pairs secondary schools tournament will be played at the Kamo greens on April 6. Entries should be made through Sport Northland. All Northland schools are eligible to enter.
As Bowls NZ is looking at running a Secondary Schools NZ event next season with players being selected to represent Centres, we look forward to having a great entry in this event.
