It was "bloody fortunate" no one was injured when a six-metre trailer parted company with the truck that was towing it on State Highway 1 in Northland.
It appeared the weld joins on the A-frame section at the front of the trailer had snapped and the trailer careered off the road into a bank. Luckily no other vehicles were involved.
Highway Patrol Senior Constable Robert Dill-Russell said the driver of the southbound truck had seen the three-axle trailer veer off the road near Uretiti in his rear vision mirror about 11am yesterday.
The driver had travelled from Tauranga to Kaitaia with a load of furniture and was returning to the Bay of Plenty with an empty trailer.
"It's bloody fortunate there was no one else involved and it has hit the bank," Mr Dill- Russell said.
