Surgery for stabbing
A Far North man has been airlifted to hospital after a stabbing left him with a suspected punctured lung. The incident occurred on Wednesday evening at Otaua, southwest of Kaikohe, with the victim's mother driving him to Rawene Hospital about 9.45pm. Senior Sergeant Brian Swann, of Mid North police, said the man had a wound to his back and a possible punctured lung so he was flown by Northland Rescue Helicopter to Whangarei Hospital. He was due to undergo surgery yesterday afternoon. The injury was not life threatening. Both police and the victim knew who the offender was. Efforts to find him were continuing.
Lucky Lotto winner

Driver sparks callout
A driver who performed one skid too many at Ahipara on Tuesday night prompted a call to the fire brigade when the vehicle crashed into a power box, setting it alight, and a fence. The driver and a passenger pushed the car back on to the road and had disappeared from the scene by the time police arrived.
Market marks one year
A market aimed at giving mums in business a step up will celebrate its first anniversary tomorrow. Pioneered by Whangarei entrepreneurs Jane Frazerhurst and Brooke Gibson, the market is a free event selling everything from food to fashion. The Collective Marketplace runs from 10am to 2pm at Forum North.
College rebuild opens
What can be achieved with $14 million will be revealed today (friday) with the grand opening of the "new" Northland College in Kaikohe. A blessing began at 5am, followed by the official opening by Associate Education Minister Louise Upston at 10.30am. The old school, with the exception of the administration block and the pool, will be demolished.
