Northland's Hundertwasser Art Centre fundraising team has hit its final fundraising goal and now has the money to commence building.
Maggie Barry, Minister for Arts, Culture and Heritage, today announced a Government grant of up to $3 million for the project during a visit to Whangarei's Town Basin to see Te Kakano.
The latter is a mini-Hundertwasser building that was created to assimilate local tradespeople with the unique Hundertwasser design style.
Ms Barry announced the news alongside Whangarei MP Dr Shane Reti, bringing the total Government contribution up to $7m.
Construction work, which will involve site preparation, could start before Christmas.
